The project involves a carefully considered rear extension to a mid-terrace Victorian townhouse in Hammersmith, forming part of a full internal modern refurbishment that respects and complements the character of the historic fabric.

The extension accommodates a generous new kitchen and dining space, conceived as a light-filled hub that opens directly onto the garden, fostering a stronger connection between house and landscape. Contemporary detailing and material choices are balanced with references to the original architecture, ensuring the new addition enhances rather than detracts from the building’s heritage.

A basement extension has also been introduced, providing a dedicated utility space and bathroom to free up the main living areas and improve the home’s functionality. At the rear, the design integrates seamlessly with a newly envisioned "forest garden," a layered, biodiverse outdoor environment that brings seasonal richness, ecological value, and a sense of retreat to the urban setting.

Designed for a young family looking to grow, the project creates a flexible and enduring home that supports family life, offering both vibrant communal areas and a strong link to nature within the city.
